POLLOKSHIELDS FILMS!
Pollokshields Community Council are making a series of films to address anti-social behaviour in Pollokshields. In order to develop our script we are asking residents, specifically parents, what their views are of this problem!
We have a survey we’d like to get as many answers as possible from local parents/carers. The link can be found here!

The Pollokshields Community Council was awarded funds from the Vibrancy Fund and the Area Partnership to make a series of wee films in Pollokshields to address issues of ‘anti-social behaviour’ from a creative perspective. Over the past years many residents have expressed frustration at our local meetings and on the streets as to common problems we are aware of.
The film is to be facilitated by Vice-Chair Kate E. Deeming, long term Pollokshields resident, community activist, artist and cake maker (deemingdreaming.com) with filmmaker Basharat Khan (bashartcreative.com) who has a long history of film work here in the Shields. Our Production Manager is Pollokshields lad, Martin Graham who emigrated out of the Shields to make telly and film worldwide but now comes back to support our fabulous endeavour.
The project is focused on working *particularly* with the five Primary Schools of Pollokshields; Pollokshields Primary, Glendale English, Glendale Gaelic, St. Albert’s and Al Qalam. The reason for this is we had been approached by the parents in the schools themselves about creating some sort of ‘bridge’ of interaction between the schools. Whilst our focus is there, if you are not in that catchment and want to get involved do get in touch.
The project has three parts:
1. Script Development: For the first part of the project we are gathering views from local parents regarding parenting/childhood/their children/perspectives of anti-social behaviour. This is not because these children are guilty of the behaviour it is because they are not! The film seeks to create a contrast between ‘anarchic’ (ie. child) behaviour and child dreams with the ‘anarchic’ behaviour we witness. A big influence was the essay by Robert Fulgham in 1989 titled “All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”. The films will serve the basis of our scripts. All data gathered will adhere to strict data protection and child protection policies.
2. Casting: Casting will be done via the schools themselves. We are looking for a diverse and energetic group of kids to get involved in casting but also to learn about the filmmaking process.
3. Filming: Filming will be done on weekends in March.

*The survey explores your views and experiences of anti-social behaviour in Pollokshields to inform the film. It also gathers your experiences of being a parent or carer, to gather phrases or expressions we use with our children which we might include in the film.
We are asking for your contact details to keep you informed of the project and also in case you want to be involved.
Those involved in the delivery of the film will use the information you provide us in a confidential and anonymous way. We will not use your name at all, and will ensure you cannot be identified by any examples we use. We would only break this commitment if we were concerned something you had raised suggested a person was being harmed or might be in danger of being harmed. In this case, we would contact the relevant authorities.
It is also important to highlight that this survey is not a mechanism to report safety concerns or criminal activity. If you want to report an incident you must contact the police or Crimestoppers directly. The survey is only being used to gather material to inform our film.

Have a say on naming new streets in the ‘Shields’
The new 200 home development on Maxwell Rd, some may know it as the old Virgin building, is getting a new set of proposed street names:
- Brickfield View
- Brickfield Crescent
- Brickfield Street
- Etna Way
- Etna View
WHAT DO YOU THINK THE NAMES SHOULD BE???
A few thoughts about street names….
- Should they reflect local history and heritage
- Should they reflect our diverse community
- Should they reflect what we want to be
