Planning remains central to the Community Councils’ efforts. We support the protection of conservation areas and that new developments remain true to the heritage of Pollokshields. We have done this through written representation of planning applications and have made robust representations during consultations of new builds in Pollokshields. If you wish to raise a planning application or have a concern about licenses for pubs and restaurants and ensuring that businesses comply with the law then please get in touch.

If you wish to search for a planning application that you are affected by then the Glasgow City Council’s Online Planning portal is an excellent resource. It contains plans and other documents for planning applications received by the Council. Planning applications can also be viewed on the MyGlasgow app (a mobile phone app that allows you to report issues to the Council and view local information, e.g. council tax bands, planning applications, jobs, etc.).

History of Pollokshields

The Pollokshields Heritage have amassed a wealth of information about the buildings in the area and the notable people that lived in them. Pollokshields Heritage offer heritage trail walks and the website offers a delightful experience in learning more about the area.

Historical pictures can also be found on the Mitchell Library archives and there is an interesting Wikipedia page on the area.

The Pollokshields Community Council’s emblem is inspired by the Maxwell Coat of Arms that can be seen on the entrance to the Pollokshields Burgh Hall.
